This is a space for bold, heart-centred ideas about how we live and what our built environments say about what we value.
I’m starting this newsletter because I want a place to say the things that often go unsaid in architecture and urban design. The things that sit beneath the beautiful renders and lofty mission statements. The uncomfortable truths. The possibilities we’re not reaching for. The care we keep cutting out.
I’m writing Dwell Well after many years working as both an architect and city design lead. I believe in the potential of good design to create a better future but the way we build today often pushes that belief to its limits. Many projects celebrated as ‘sustainable’ are still extractive at their core. Repair, connection, and the health of people and planet are treated as optional. The systems we build within reward appearances over impact and hubris over soul.
Dwell Well is where I’ll share ideas about how we might do things differently. A place to think out loud. To ask harder questions. To reimagine what the built environment could be if we let it become something more generous, more alive, more in tune with the world it touches.
It will be a space for reflection, conversation, and yes, some provocation. We won’t all agree and that’s okay. In fact, that’s kind of the point. Let’s push the boundaries a little. Let’s reimagine what’s possible in radical and restorative ways.
This won’t be a regular content machine. I’m following a rhythm, not a grind. I’ll write when I’m feeling inspired—when something is burning in my brain or buzzing in my heart. Sometimes that’ll be a story, a reflection, or a deep dive.
If you’re here, I hope it’s because you’re also craving something deeper. If there’s something you want to hear about—questions you’re sitting with, frustrations you want unpacked, ideas you think deserve more air—I’d love to know.
Thanks for reading. I’m really glad you’re here.
Let’s dwell well together.
Fiona
